Transportation & Visa |
Baku does have a metro system but it has come under terrorist attack in recent times and it is best avoided. Walking is fine during the day but generally taxis are the best way to get around. The licensed cabs are the yellow cars with a Taxi sign on their roofs. Taxis do not have meters and the drivers do not give receipts. A short trip within the city should cost about Am5,000 and there is no need to tip the driver.
Visa
Visas are issued free of hassles to all visitors with the exception of Palestinian passport holders and Tongan ‘protected person’ passport holders. To get a visa, you must have a valid passport, an onward or return ticket and sufficient funds for your stay. Most travellers will be issued a four-week tourist visa free of charge on arrival, and subsequent extensions up to six months are free as well.
